Sharon High School Hosts Third Annual Mini Golf Tournament
For the third year in a row the Sharon Boosters hosted their Mini Golf Extravaganza at the SHS gym combining 18 holes of mini golf with the excitement of the 50’ Long Putt Competition for a chance at a $10,000 grand prize. There was a spirited competition for the team with the best costumes and after serious debate Bob Sondheim, Sharon’s AD awarded the prize to the Boys Swim Team from among more than 30 teams competing. Two firsts this year deserve mention. Jeff Cruzan became the first ever player to make a 50’ putt during the qualifying rounds. With the crowd gathered for the final attempt Jeff succumbed to the pressure and hit his “Big Money” putt about 30’. Serious ribbing ensued. This year we also introduced the new interactive trivia contest for all players and hopefully generated interest for even larger competitions in the future.
Massachusetts Secondary School Athletic Directors Association Annual Conference
More than 300 of the state’s AD’s gathered in Hyannis in March for their annual conference and trade show. This year, for the first time, the conference featured a three day putting contest with qualifying rounds on days 1 and 2 and the Finals on day 3. Contestants were vying for a chance at a $10,000 Putt from 50’ on the Tour Links Long Putt Green. Martha Jamieson from Wayland HS, incoming VP for the organization qualified with a 20’ putt and then made her bid from 50’. Despite urgings from her fellow AD’s her last attempt wasn’t quite on the mark. Rumor has it that the male contingent will be out for redemption next year.Wachusett Regional High School First Annual Mini Golf Fundraiser
In January 2009 the Mountaineers Booster Club was the Presenting Sponsor for the First Annual Mini Golf Fundraiser held at the spacious Wachusett Regional High School in Holden, MA. Organizer Nancy DiLeo was able to connect with local business owners to sponsor the 18 hole event that raised several thousand dollars between the hole sponsors as well as the “Birdie” and “Par” sponsors. Special thanks go to Built-Rite Tool & Die / Reliance Engineering for their generous donation as the event’s Major Sponsor. The event was scheduled on a Friday to coincide with three basketball games being hosted at WRHS. Between games dozens of fans enjoyed a quick round on the course and got back to the stands in plenty of time to watch their teams in action. Plans are already underway for an expanded format for next season.
